“If he wants to play he is more than welcome. I will even step down from the captaincy and play under Younis Khan,” Afridi said on Wednesday.

Despite the fact that the economy is in a recession there are still those who can afford, and want to risk, large purchases. If you had the money would you buy a sports team, just for a fun? As John Bitove, co-founder of the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, says, “I think there’s vanity, there’s fun, there’s the idea you can improve the business and make it profitable.”

If you are lucky enough and you happen to be rich, you might be ‘on the hunt for multi-million-dollar trophies.’ While the concept seems exciting and glamorous, there are still issues that need to be discussed like will the team get sponsors? In this economy, will companies want to give money to display their logo at venues that may not be selling out?

It is all a work in progress, while some teams fail, some will succeed. Let’s just hope that yours  isn’t the one to go.

Audi Sport Team Joest’s test entry in the 1000-mile “Petit Le Mans” race at Road Atlanta (U.S. state of Georgia) had an unexpected outcome: The American endurance classic had to be red flagged just before half-time due to torrential rainfall. Although Audi had led almost entirely, the two R15 TDI prototypes were only classified in third and fourth positions. Small consolation: The Diesel-powered racing car won the efficiency award “Michelin GreenX Challenge” – a trophy awarded to the most environmentally friendly car.

England open their Champions Trophy campaign on Friday in a tough group with hosts South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka

England open their Champions Trophy campaign on Friday in a tough group with hosts South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.  The 2004 final, when they lost to the West Indies by two wickets in near-darkness at The Oval despite Steve Harmison peaking at 96.8mph on the speed gun, is the closest England have come to winning a global one-day competition.  To the embarrassment of Lord’s, England remain the only major Test-playing nation never to win one – and bookies William Hill rate them 12-1 long shots to end the drought. The top two nations in each four-team group go through to the semi-finals, and for Andrew Strauss to add a one day trophy to the antique urn he lifted last month, England will have to upset the formbook after losing 6-1 to the Aussies in the NatWest Series.
