The Major League Baseball World Series Trophy was awarded to the New York Yankees Wednesday night in New York. The Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in game six of the best of seven championship series.
This win marks the 27th time the Yankees have been awarded the World Series Trophy, also known as the Commissioner’s Trophy. Even though the Yankees last won the trophy in 2000, their 27 World Series wins and 40 appearances set a record in baseball.
The trophy’s features include 30 gold-plated flags, one for each of the Major League teams, above a silver baseball , which is covered with latitude and longitude lines to represent the globe.
